Riot Kayak & Canoe Sail

$55.99
SKU: sail

Sail downwind with ease in your kayak or canoe. Packs up quickly for storage in its own carrying bag.

  • Has the power to pull along heavier boats loaded with gear or people.
  • Works well with SOTs and fishing kayaks.
  • You can always tilt the sail forward and "spill" the wind to depower the sail.
  • This sail retains its shape in high winds and doesn't turn a kayak or canoe into a complex, heavy sailing craft.

Packed Dimensions:
Diameter:  15"
Height: 1.5"

Full Sail Diameter: 42.5"

It works!

The sail works as it is advertised. My canoe partner and I paddled into to wind on our last trip. On the way back, we set up the sail. I sat in the bow and worked the sail while he sat in the stern and acted as a rudder. We didn't have to paddle at all. A good stiff breeze is best. We were in 15-20 mph winds. With only a light breeze, a canoe can probably be paddled faster. But everything considered, I am very glad that I bought it!

Sailing a 17 foot canoe

Initial tests in moderate 10km breezes went great! It's easy for the bow paddler to deploy and pack up, generates enough force to move a loaded canoe in 10lkm/h winds. Still need to see how it holds up on a long multi-week trip.
